It's hard to take that leap from an idea in your mind and executing it into your reality. Your Dream. A passion so deeply lodged in your very being, your just bursting to show the world what you can do!
A few years ago and with three toddlers I made the decision that I was not going to go back to work. Well, not in the main stream kind of way. If you knew me you would understand. As great as it was being out in the workforce and being around other people, earning a regular wage, it was not me.
I am the kind of friend who has a new idea every week, a new story to tell, a new home renovation to complete or a song or poem that wakes me in the middle of the night just begging to be written.
Nothing about me is mainstream, I tried the whole being normal thing and well... I think it made me look crazier.
I thank my friends and family for loving my jump in head first, panic later ways. Why? because if I didn't jump in headfirst I would never know what I could achieve. So after making the decision to stay at home and work on my dreams I started writing The Curvies Series. Best days of my life, I enjoyed every moment of writing them. I added every quirky, funny, tragic, immature personality traits into my characters that my friends and I relate to in our own lives. I was living the dream finally. From there I got into blogging and nothing could compare to interviewing your all time favorite Authors, I mean come on talking to the likes of Nashoda Rose and Mia Sheridan, life couldn't get much better!
When I decided to start putting together IndieLove Magazine everything I lived and breathed about the Indie Life was coming together. My Dream to showcase Independant creators from all over the globe was falling into place and the smile on my face was cemented.
Then BAM!!! from all sides people began to try and scare me. You need to do this, that, find people to pay for advertisements, big companies, investors. You need to hire these people and invest in this software. My God the lists was endless, I literally began to panic, thinking should I even release the first issue. I can still cancel everything, this is just too hard!
Then an Angel comes along in the way of a very talented Author, Elly Klein. Mind you she had no idea about my moment of panic. Elly recommended a book called 'Anything you want' by Derek Sivers (Founder of CDBABY). Best book ever! What I got from it was simple. Be true to your dream! Remember what your objectives were, what you set out to achieve. It really drove home the reason why I started IndieLove Magazine.
I didn't want to go mainstream. I'm not saying that major record labels and book publishers or film studios are bad and if you as an independant get picked up by them, then GO YOU!!! But in my heart i'm Indie all the way. Some of the best books I have read, films I have watched and music I have listened to have come from the unsigned and I am so proud to have discovered them. That's what IndieLove Magazine is all about... Shining the spotlight on these amazing and raw, talented, hardworking creators and letting the world see them.
This is my dream and i'm staying true to it! I want lovers of independants to have access to Indie Authors, Artists, films, actors, etsy crafters etc. I also want to be able to show other Indie's, platforms that can be utilised to help them get their work seen, like Bluethumb Art which is an online platform selling independant art, Noisetrade for musicians ( P.s I totally heart Derek Webb ;) ) and many other self publishing and promoting platforms.
I also love to hear from other Independants and hear your great ideas and learn of what your dreams are. If you want to drop me a line and just say hello, DO IT! Make me smile ;) Submit your work. Most of all please support me and what I am trying to do, it means the world to me!
Head to www.indielovemagazine.com and sign up for these newsletters, launchdate, podcasts are coming soon for book reviews, send me your music samples. Or just leave a comment on one of my platforms and i'll get back to you.
love
