It's ok not to be ok...

There's often this pressure in our everyday walk to put on a smile for the world and act like all is wonderful in our lives. We do our shopping, go to work, play with our children or hang out with our friends and family laughing and grinning as if we are complete. And you know what.... sometimes that's true. We have those days, weeks and months where everything is falling into place and we see the positives of what tomorrow brings. We work harder, create more, love the people around us with all the room we have in our hearts.

Then comes the blues, depression, sadness. Yes we all have them too. It may be from depression or a mental illness, breakup, grief or it can simply be from exhaustion, a fight with someone you love, a rude comment from a complete stranger. All of these things can hurl us down into a place where we just can't cope, where we feel hopeless and question who we are. So many of us have been there time and time again. But most of us still get up, put a smile on our faces and act like were okay.

If you take anything away with you from these ramblings I want you to remember this.

It's ok not to be ok!

It took me a really long time to allow those words to seep into my soul. Now, it's a quote that I have on hand anytime I feel the pressure and need downtime. When things are a little too sad or tough, it's okay to lock yourself inside the house. Here are some suggestions for your down time.

1. Curl up on the sofa with your favourite movie or tv series.

2. Try not to log on to Facebook for the day.

3. Order your favourite take out.

4. Wear your pyjamas all day.

5. Take a bubble bath.

6. Reach out to friends and family if you don't want to be alone and tell them honestly how you feel.

Come up with your own ways to spend your downtime, repeat the steps for as long as you need. But when you begin to feel better, pick yourself back up and take life again head on. Inspire others with your strength, be there for others. Go after your dreams, love like it's your last day on earth. And remember if the day comes when you need time out again, repeat... It's ok not to be ok.

If you can't seem to break free from your depression, please talk to a professional or your doctor, they really can help. It's ok not to be ok, sometimes we all need a little more support :)
