Staying Uniquely You in Business

Whether you’re an entrepreneur, an executive, a worker bee… whatever your title, it is certainly possible to be the flamingo in a flock of pigeons.

In fact, you might even find that the more authentic and real you are, the more successful you’ll actually be.

As Dr Seuss wisely quoted, “Today you are YOU that is TRUER than true. There is NO ONE alive who is YOUER than YOU!” Seriously, your uniqueness is your slight edge. It makes you stand out from the crowd. So rock it.

Sure, there may be times that you have to follow the rules, policies, laws and regulations, but when you are confident in your own skin, you know your stuff and the rules you’re not allowed to break, then you can challenge the status quo, shake things up in your industry, problem solve, find better ways, develop new concepts… shine brighter than the rest!

As a civil celebrant, I have to adhere to the Marriage Act. But I don’t have to be boring. (In fact, the day I see someone disengaged or yawning during one of my ceremonies, I’m outta there!) I am completely honest with every new couple I meet, explaining that I am different to other celebrants, (particularly traditional celebrants) and that what they see is what they get. I tell them what I am, and what I’m not. That way, they know exactly what they’re getting and I attract the right customers.

Same can be said about many businesses… there are so many businesses out there offering the same goods or services. We’ve all seen a strip of restaurants with certain ones packed out the door, and some empty. But what makes successful ones stand out?

Uniqueness.

There’s something that makes certain stars shine just that little brighter than the other.

By being yourself, you’re offering something unique, authentic and wonderful.
